It is law within the UK that every item of precious metal sold such as Platinum, Gold, Silver is stamped labelling the item with the type of metal it is. Platinum pieces which weigh less than 0.5 grams, 18ct Gold and Palladium pieces weighing less than 1.0 gram and Silver pieces weighing less than 7.78 grams are except from hallmark.
At Diamonds Factory all our products are hallmarked as per UK hallmarking law from London Assay Office (The GoldSmith Company)
The Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office is the oldest assay office in the United Kingdom. It has provided hallmarking services since The Goldsmiths' Company was founded in the 1300s. The company received its royal charter in 1327 and ranks 5th in order of precedence of the 12 Great Livery Companies of the City of London.
Hallmarking dates back to the 1300s when Edward I of England passed a law requiring any item made of silver, which was offered for sale, to be at least of equal quality as that of the coin of the realm (silver currency). The wardens of The Goldsmiths' Company were tasked with visiting workshops in the City of London to assay (test) silver articles. If these articles were found to be below standard they were originally destroyed and the metal forfeited to the King. If they passed, each article received the King's mark of authentication - the mark of a leopard's head. By 1478, there were several hundred workshops and merchants manufacturing silver articles in the City of London. It was not possible for the wardens to visit them all so the merchants were ordered to bring their items to Goldsmiths' Hall for testing and marking and a permanent Assay Office was established in the building. This is the origin of the term hallmark - struck with the King's mark at Goldsmiths' Hall.
In 1544 the Goldsmith's Company adopted the King's mark as their town mark and the mark of the leopard's head is now internationally recognised as the mark of this assay office.
The Goldsmiths's Company Assay Office is still based at Goldsmiths's Hall and remains the oldest company in Britain to be continually trading from the same site. However, it also has two satellite offices; at Greville Street in Hatton Garden in the heart of the London jewellery quarter and within a high security complex near London's Heathrow airport. It now has a new off-site facility within the Dalston-based jewellery manufacturer, Allied Gold. This is the first time in the Assay Office's 700 year history that it has opened permanent hallmarking services on a customer's premises.
In addition to hallmarking, the office has now expanded its range of services to support the jewellery trade and enforcement authorities. It offers a variety of specialist analytical services including nickel, lead & cadmium testing, antique silver dating, non-destructive compositional analysis, plating thickness measurement and a melt and assay service for scrap precious metal carried out in their fully independent on-site laboratory. Other services offered are a jewellery valuation service, laser marking, trading standards assistance, high quality photography and a comprehensive range of training and educational seminars, lectures and specialist events.

We always recommend starting with a pair of earrings you love the most as your base pair. Normally, your statement earring will be the one that sits in your bottom hole. Your starting point could be a pretty pair of diamond hoop earrings, or a dazzling pair of halo diamond earrings, the possibilities really are endless and all dependant on what you love the most. So, whatever you deem as your favourite, start here and begin building up your ear stack from there.Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment
It can be tempting to stick to the same sort of styles when mix and matching your earrings, but in our opinion the most stylish stacks always come out of a little experimenting. The whole purpose of having an earring stack is for your various styles to complement and elevate one another. You can experiment with different lengths, shapes, sizes and so much more – and you might not realise what actually works together until you try! Our advice is to always give different styles a shot to see what you do and don’t like. You’ll soon see a pattern of preferences form which allows you to really hone into your ideal earring stack.Mix Your Metals
One of our favourite types of stacks is one that features mixed metals. Often, it can feel a little daunting to contrast two or more metals against each other, but you’ll typically find that the result is usually more than worth it. Our favourite combination is mixing white gold earrings with yellow gold earrings together. As they’re both from the same gold family, you’ll find they pair together perfectly, and we love how much the metal colours work simultaneously with very little effort required.Stack Different Sizes
You may think all your earrings should be around the same size, but this really isn’t the case when it comes to earring stacking. Anything goes, and we think mixing different sized earrings in the right way can look amazing when done well. When it comes to earring size, you can also mix up the weights and densities too to create a certain look and feel. Earring stacks really don’t have to be complicated, but if you need a starting point, why not pair your everyday stud earrings with a pair of ear climbers to create a statement look that features different sizes.Add in Some Colour
Don’t be shy when it comes to adding in a little colour to your stylish stack of earrings. Here at Diamonds Factory we have an incredible selection of different gemstone earrings for you to choose from to add that perfect pop of colour into your stack! Whether you love the charm of a gorgeous green pair of emerald earrings, or prefer the rich red look of a pair of ruby earrings instead, one thing we can guarantee is that a splash of colour will elevate your earring stack instantly.Create Some Balance
Sparking the perfect balance on each ear is a fundamental part of successful ear stacking. This doesn’t necessarily mean each ear has to match seamlessly, but it’s all about keeping both ears looking nicely balanced. This can be created in various ways, one being to simply wear the same amount of earrings on each ear – if you were opting for some constellation style earrings, you could wear a star in one ear and a moon in the other. What we’re saying, is that the balance doesn’t have to be in completely equal, there are simple ways you can create two ear stacks that work in unison together effortlessly. So there you have it, we’ve laid out all our top tips to create the ultimate earring stack, so now all that’s left for you to do is get planning, piercing and shopping.Don’t forget to show us your very own ear stacks with the hashtag #mydiamondsfactory, we can’t wait to see what you come up with!
